Pantech releases new handset – the C600 V.J. | , 2:52 p.m. July 23, 2008 2008-07-23

Pantech, the third largest South Korean mobile phone manufacturer, has decided to release a new model, the C900. Online reviews tell that this device is not a device which will change the mobile industry or have a tremendous impact as iPhone, nor is it called an iPhone killer but it still is a good handset.

Pantech C600 is basically a clamshell weighting 75 grams and measuring 90 x 45 x 18.8 mm which is pretty small. Its battery is a 930 mAh which may keep the phone alive for about 3 hours in talktime and up to 250 in stand-by. Battery life is pretty good and the features are not that bad, perhaps this mobile phone can become great.

The C600 comes with quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, dual-band UMTS connectivity (850 / 1900 MHz) and a 1.8 inch TFT internal display with 262K colors but with only 65K colors and 96 x 96 pixels. For entertainment the device has a MP3 player and a Video player. Interesting is the fact that it supports only Bluetooth 1.2, but also has USB and microSD support. The handset also has 25MB internal memory but this doesn’t make it great.

In fact taking pictures would just bring a lot of pissed reactions regarding its quality. The device incorporates just a LED flash capable of recording video but it is a VGA of 0.3 megapixels. We can safely conclude that this handset is not made for taking pictures; actually we can ask ourselves why did they add such a camera?

Pantech says the device will first be available in Mexico where it will be offered by the largest mobile carrier there, Telcel which has more that 51 million subscribers. Telcel will have the device ready for sale at the beginning of August but the price is unknown at the moment.
