I really doubt as to how exactly Google is going to manage to subsidize the production costs enough to make the hardware cheap so as to compete with the already established players in the market…

Hmm… Well if we have to buy the Nexus one cell phone directly from Google implies, then I think there won't be any contractual obligation for service.. Correct?
