ESI-Tecnalia is part of the LOMS project together with fourteen other
European members. The principal objective was to overcome the
difficulties between network operators and providers of local services,
with the goal of simplifying the creation of a wide range of new
services for mobile phone users. The LOMS platform and open-source
tools, together with new intermediaries, give service providers the
opportunity of easily generating specialised localized services for
their mobile phone clients, as has been demonstrated on a number of
times.
The function of ESI-Tecnalia within the project is to
lead the development aspects on the provision of Local Mobile Services.
In cooperation with their partners, who are undertaking the underlying
infrastructure, it has created a powerful series of tools that enable
small and medium-sized companies and self-employed persons to develop
new services easily and rapidly, as well as to adapt existing services
to their needs.
Another function of ESI-Tecnalia, together with
Ibermática, has involved the definition of a language and of tools to
simplify multimodal access, with regard to contents and services for
mobile users. The development of content distribution and diversion
technologies for the reuse of existing content from different sources
have also been taken into account in this project.
European
Software Institute (ESI-Tecnalia) is one of the members taking part in
and leader of the work packet on the development of services, within
the European Local Mobile Services (LOMS) project. This project has
been awarded the gold medal prize by Information Technology for
European Advancement (ITEA) and ARTEMISIA, the Association for R&D
actors in the field of ARTEMIS (Advance Research & Technology of
Embedded Intelligence and Systems). The LOMS project also won the
silver medal for the most voted exhibition stand by participants at the
symposium recently organised by ITEA2 (the EUREKA Software-intensive
Systems and Services Cluster) and ARTEMISIA in Rotterdam (the
Netherlands).
