Recycling is an important issue to all manufacturers in all industry branches. Besides the fact that this action is environmental friendly it also saves what is important to all businesses, money.
Nokia already uses as much recycled materials as it can and with great wisdom. By producing smaller encasements in 2006, the Finns spared no more than 100 million euros mainly in transportation and materials. Today, Nokia says it might take some time, maybe a few years, until mobile phones forged from recycled materials can be available in markets.
The reason for waiting is that there is a lack of accessibility to these recycled materials for a large scale mobile phone production, but in the future Nokia officials believe this topic will increase competitively.
“We consider this to be a very competitive factor” said Markus Terho, Director of Nokia’s Ecology Unit, but “it may take some years”.
Barcelona hosted a trade meeting in February this year, where Nokia’s Executive Director Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo presente an ecological phone. This product was created by using only recycled materials.
Of course, huge corporations always think one step forward, that’s why they are huge, and cannot ignore the fact that resources don’t last forever. Or at least this would be nice to think, but in fact they run after profit which is of course normally to any business. 2006 profits indicate that recycling is good for business, so the Finns are smart and will invest in this environmental friendly issue.
