Cisco, Clearwire, Intel Corporation, Alcatel-Lucent, Samsung Electronics and Sprint have united in an alliance dubbed the Open Patent Alliance to promote WiMAX 4G.
This technology is a low cost internet broadband wireless service which enables high-speed web browsing for mobile Internet users. The alliance will try to establish a larger WiMAX industry which has low price equipment and service costs and perform splendidly for Internet speeds, achieving multi-megabit connectivity.
A WiMAX patent tool will be created by the members which expect other six companies to join them. The Open Patent Alliance will have its own board of directors and each member company will receive a seat there, in addition OPA will have its own staff.
