We have had new carpet installed throughout the house. The sales person
recommended regular vacuuming the first few weeks to eliminate stray
fibers etc. (makes sense). We have a Dyson DC 40 but the salesperson
recommended against that due to its very strong suction. He recommended
getting one with a height adjustment that we can set ourselves. (He said
the Dyson does this automatically based on floor type but the suction
is still too strong---for new carpet.) Does this seem something
reasonable and worth doing or should we stick to the Dyson (which we
like)? To be fair, there was no pressure from the salesperson to buy a
certain brand or from a certain store, so no vested interest as far as
we can tell.

It seems to me that it makes no sense to buy a new vacuum cleaner because of a new carpet, this is stupid.

My sister also recently put carpet all over the house, and the consultant said the same thing! The Dyson DC 40 has a lot of power, and it can damage the fibers on your carpet and cause it to wear out faster. The consultant advised my sister to buy a small vacuum cleaner that would do the job well, he even suggested one site https://www.popularvacuums.com/articles/vacuum-cleaner-buying- [popularvacuums.com]guide.htmlguide.html where you can read the characteristics of the vacuum cleaner and reviews. So I recommend listening to the consultant and buying a small vacuum cleaner.
